Steven Spielberg set to produce and possibly direct DC film Blackhawk
Hold on to your hats because Steven Spielberg (Ready Player One, every film you loved from your childhood) might be about to throw his into the DC ring! Spielberg is on board to produce and might even direct the upcoming DC film Blackhawk, according to Deadline. He may have the next Indiana Jones film and West Side Story coming up, but then it always seems like he’s got a ton of projects going on. Take a look at his IMDB page and see how long it takes for you to scroll down through the announced films and TV series he’s working on. The news came from Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich earlier today.
If you’re not familiar with the DC Comics character, it was first published by Quality Comics and then DC Comics. It was created by Chuck Cuidera with help from Bob Powell and Will Eisner. THe first appearance of the characters from Blackhawk was in August 1941 in “Military Comics #1.” The WWII ace pilot Blackhawk Squadron is led by the mysterious Blackhawk, and generally consists of seven members. They are known for their battlecry “Hawk-a-a-a!” Back in the 1940s, Blackhawk comics often sold out every other comic book title besides Superman.
A military comic book film seems pretty perfect for Spielberg, considering his body of work, including Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. The screenplay for Blackhawk was written by long-time Spielberg collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). Spielberg will produce with Kristie Macosko Krieger for Amblin Entertainment and Sue Kroll will executive produce for Kroll & Co. Entertainment.
