HBO’s The Leftovers – Regina King

Regina King joins Watchmen cast

Today it was revealed that Regina King will be joining the much-anticipated pilot for HBO’s Watchmen adaptation. She will be joining an ensemble cast with Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard. No official news has been released concerning who they will be portraying in the upcoming pilot.

This project would team King up again with series’ creator Damon Lindelof. They have previously worked together on HBO’s The Leftovers.

The Watchmen series pilot has been written by Lindelof. The pilot will be based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ limited comic book series, which was first given a live-action adaptation back in 2009. In the comics, Watchmen took place during an alternate history where superheroes emerged in the 1940s and 1960s to combat crime. Their presence ended up alternating United States history. Wars were won and news stories were never broken (i.e. Watergate). By the 1980s, superheroes are outlawed. A good chunk of heroes are in retirement or working government jobs trying to make ends meet. Everything changes when a government-sponsored superhero is murdered.

Lindelof also executive produces with Tom Spezialy and Nicole Kassell. Kassell will also be directing the pilot.

Who do you think everyone will be playing? Do you have any theories yet? Let us know in the comments below.
