Djimon Hounsou to Play the Wizard in DC’s Shazam!

Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) is set to play the Wizard in DC’s Shazam!. Hounsou will play the being who gives Billy Batson his powers, according to EW. We recently saw Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer in Guardians of the Galaxy and will reprise the role in Captain Marvel. Marvel and DC! Djimon, you’ve done it! You’ve conquered the geek world! The role of the Wizard was previously reported as being set for Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), though a scheduling conflict prevented him from taking the role.

As the site notes, filming has wrapped on the film, but the casting was just reported. Shazam! is set to hit theaters on April 5, 2019. It’s the story of a young boy (Angel Asher) who is given the power to become Shazam (Zachary Levi) with a magic word. The Wizard is an ancient Egyptian magician who fights evil and passes his powers to Billy. He merely has to say the word “Shazam” to become a superhero. (Shazam was previously called Captain Marvel in the comics.) In the comics, Billy can summon the ghost of the Wizard to help guide him.

What do you guys think of Djimon Hounsou playing the Wizard in Shazam!@LegionofLeia? Are you excited to see him in both the DC and Marvel cinematic universes? Are you excited for the film? We want to hear from you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet them to us .
