Star Wars Episode IX has cast The Americans’ Keri Russell
Star Wars Episode IX has a new cast member. According to Variety, the film has cast Keri Russell (The Americans, Felicity, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) in a unnamed role. J.J. Abrams is writing and directing the film, and worked with Russell in 2006’s Mission: Impossible III. According to sources, the role will require fight scenes, which Russell has done in The Americans and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. There is no further information about the role just yet. The news has yet to be confirmed by Disney.
Mark Hamill tweeted the beginning of the countdown to Episode IX yesterday. You can check out his tweet below.

As you know, Abrams took over for Colin Trevorrow, who was originally supposed to helm the film. The director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is writing the script with Lawrence Kasdan. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o and Adam Driver will return to reprise their roles from the last two Star Wars films. The most recent, The Last Jedi has proved divisive with fans, with passionate defenders on both sides.
We are, of course, curious about your speculation on Russell’s role in the film. Who do you think she’ll play in Star Wars: Episode IX? Will she be on the Light side or the Dark side? Will she have Force powers? Will she be a character we might recognize from the novels or the Extended Universe? We want to hear from you! Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.
Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019
