Today The CW announced that they have found their Batwoman in Ruby Rose!

It was revealed at SDCC that the character would be debuting during the next Arrowverse crossover, but the search has been on for the past couple of months to find the perfect person to play the character. Now she has been found.

In Batwoman, armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Batwoman is one of several vigilantes who has taken on the moniker of The Bat while protecting the city. She was first introduced back in 1956 and has since undergone an evolution of sorts, especially with the relaunch of DC Comics’ New 52. Since the relaunch, Kate has been refashioned into a Jewish lesbian, the first lesbian superhero for a title DC character.

The inclusion of Batwoman within the Arrowverse coincides with the introduction of Gotham City to the verse. The inclusion of Gotham City and all it entails has been teased for a while with the Arrowverse. Fans have seen hints and glimpses scattered out in both Arrow and The FlashThe not-so-subtle name dropping of Bruce Wayne from time-to-time has probably been the most blatant hint of all for viewers. So, all I can say is, it’s about time!

If the pilot is picked up, it will air in 2019.
