Ewan McGregor joins Birds of Prey

It was revealed by Deadline that Ewan McGregor will be joining the cast of Birds of Prey. He will be playing the movie’s villain Black Mask.

In the comics, Black Mask is a man who cannot really deal with his own failures and blames everyone else instead of himself for his shortcomings. This despite the fact that he initially killed his parents, created the False Face Society Gang, and losing everything because he just didn’t know how to do deal with business. All of those things being entirely as a result of his own actions and what not.

He joins Margot Robbie, who will be reprising her role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo, 10 Cloverfield LaneScott Pilgrim vs. the World) is set to play the role of Huntress in the film, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (UndergroundFriday Night LightsHands of Stone) will play the role of Black Canary. Rene Montoya will be played by Rosie Perez.

Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan (According to My MotherDead Pigs). Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) penned the script. Margot Robbie’s Luckychap will produce the film with Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless from Clubhouse Pictures.
