Once Upon a Deadpool trailer serves Christmas delight
20th Century Fox has released the first official trailer for the upcoming sanitized version of the financially successful Deadpool 2. Inspired by the holiday season, the powers of Princess Bride, and Deadpool’s sheer derpy genius, Once Upon a Deadpool is sure to be a joyous occasion even if slightly edited to accommodate a PG-13 rating.
The MPAA has given this new version a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of violence and action, crude sexual content, language, thematic elements and brief drug material.” The original film, which hit theaters on May 18, was rated R for “strong violence and language throughout, sexual references and brief drug material.” My only request is that they don’t do anything to harm reindeers in the making of this new, edited down film. Those poor reindeers go through enough trouble hauling a giant red-suited man around the world…
New footage was specifically shot for the edited Once Upon a Deadpool that will serve as a framing sequence in which Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool reads the story to Fred Savage in the style of 1987’s The Princess Bride. There will be a total of eight new scenes added to the film. However, this new version of Deadpool 2 will still be three minutes shorter and, arguably, full of less fuckery than the original.
However, no fuckery was spared for the F*ck Cancer charity. For every ticket sold for the film, $1 will be given to the charity. If you hate cancer and want to see it wiped out from existence, maybe go see Deadpool read a story to Fred Savage, hm?
The film is directed by David Leitch. Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.
Once Upon a Deadpool is set to be released in select theaters on December 12 and play through until Christmas Eve.
