Welcome to the Legion!

slave leia

Carrie Fisher, who will appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with original trilogy stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, issued an epic clap back to uncomfortable parents who are pro pulling the “Slave Leia” merchandise from shelves during an interview with the Wall Street Journal:

Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage.

Boom. Mic dropped. Though Carrie Fisher warned Daisy Ridley, star of the upcoming The Force Awakens, to “keep fighting against that slave outfit,” the actress seems less than thrilled with any fixation on the infamous golden bikini, whether pro or against.  Though I happen to be in favor of phasing out the “Slave Leia” merchandise in favor of badass Leia merchandise and the new Rey merchandise, overblowing the gravity of the bikini situation calls way more attention to the outfit than necessary. You can handle explaining this to your kids, especially since Leia wasn’t traipsing through the whole trilogy in it.
